‘Tis the season for planning your holiday party outfits

We’re sure the invites have been flying in at rapid speed and we want to ensure you don’t fret about what to wear to the fête. This is the season where you can play with fabrics and accents that you wouldn’t normally wear in your day to day – velvet, shine, sparkle and more. But, the idea is to look holiday inspired without overdoing it. Whether it’s your office party, family dinner, get together with friends or New Year’s Eve – we’ve got you covered with the season’s most covetable pieces and trends.

Shine and Sparkle

This can be anything from a fluid foil skirt (like this from J Crew) to a sweater dress with a subtle metallic thread (like this from Zara). The shiny midi skirt looks great with a crop top for something fancier or a long turtleneck knit sweater, like this from Wilfred Free, for something more casual. A sequined romper or sequined pants amp up the sparkle, perfect for a New Year’s Eve bash, and a sparkly colourful clutch can spark holiday feels when accessorizing any outfit.

The definitive holiday colour in any capacity. Make a statement in a head-to-toe look like this jumpsuit from Zara. Don’t forget the red lip to complete every holiday look. Anything from bright poppy red like MAC Red from MAC to a deep Merlot like Shiseido Lacquer Rouge in Drama.

We saw it earlier this year as a fall trend and it continues to be the epitome of holiday party fashion and super easy to pull off. A lush velvet mini dress or a slinky mid-length slip dress is all you need (options above from Zara, Wilfred and Intermix). Velvet is everywhere and in an array of colours so take this opportunity to step out of your comfort zone. Frosty pastels are having a moment so why not try this cozy trend in a cool shade.

Classic LBD

You can never go wrong with a LBD. Dress it up for a fancy holiday soiree with accents like lace, embroidery and cut-outs or make it playful with a full party skirt and patterned tights. Also, a super chic alternative to the LBD is a pant suit. Look for a deep-v tuxedo jacket (potentially worn with nothing underneath) and ankle grazing pants (serious inspo here, here and here).

For the Men

A tartan print in deep greens and reds add the perfect amount of holiday cheer to your seasonal style, like this classic flannel shirt from J Crew. The shirt works well alone or with a knit cardigan over top like this and paired with a crisp pair of dark wash jeans or comfy chinos. Finish the look with a classic leather strap watch like the Daniel Wellington Dapper St. Mawes (can be found in Toronto at ZANE) and leather brogue ankle boots like these from Ted Baker.

If you couldn’t tell from the mass amounts of Zara mentions above, they have slayed holiday party dressing with their current evening collection and tons of additional inspiration can be found here.
