Naked Undergrounds picks for CMW 2016


Canadian Music Week is already here, can you believe it? That means it’s May which means sun, patios and the start of festival season. We’re so ready for the city to be awash with live music we can’t quite contain ourselves. The theme for this years event is ‘’Spotlight on the UK’’, but alongside some great bands from the UK there are a number of upcoming, talented indie bands bands from Toronto, Canada and the US that we at Naked Underground are really excited about. Check out our brief guide below for some of the acts to watch out for at CMW 2016:

Acid Dad

Conceived at a drag show in Brooklyn in August 2014, Acid Dad have quickly become one of the most talked-about bands performing at this years festival. They have made a name for themselves recently as one of the tightest and most energetic live bands in the Brooklyn scene, check out their latest single Grim-


You’ve got to go and watch Nashville based Boyscott play at Burdock on Sunday May 8th but you can also find them at The Garrison @ 2pm and The 300 Club @ 9.00pm on Saturday –

Broken Hands

English band Broken Hands come from Canterbury, England fun fact- our British team member went to university there and once watched them play. Check them out below and The Garrison – Wednesday May 4th @ 12.00, May 5th – Drake Underground @ 11.00pm, Sneaky Dees @ 2.00am, May 6th – The Velvet Underground @ 9.00pm, Smiling Buddha @ 1.00am


With the release of their debut singles, Killer on the Road, Taste and Speed in November 2015, BYSTS are quickly becoming one of the most talked-about bands in psych and shoegaze, you can find them at on Wednesday May 5th – Nightowl @ 1.00am

Dilly Dally

Toronto based musicians Dilly Dally are a must see at this years CMW. Heavy and melodic, and with nods to Sonic Youth, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Distillers, and even The Pogues, Dilly Dally plays like one person, a unit that works to infect the audience.

Eagles Of Death Metal

Don’t need to say much about the Eagles of Death Metal. They are playing at the Opera House on Saturday May 7th @ 11.00pm


Vancouver band Humans are playing at the Modclub @ 12.00am on Saturday May 7th, check out the electronic duo below

English grime artist Skepta is friends with our very own boy Drake. Skepta has been around making huge tunes for years, so the fact he’s arrived in Toronto and is playing The Danforth is amazing.
