‘Tis the season for many of us to stuff our faces, over-indulge in consumerism and parcel through an infinite number of party invites capitalizing on the holiday marketing spirit. For those seeking redemption, there is at least one event that strikes the right balance of fun and purpose: The Night After Christmas, an Ugly Christmas Sweater Jam is happening on December 26th at the Parlour Lounge to collect food and donations for the Daily Bread Food Bank.
Parlour, known for its relaxed vibe and no BS logistics, is not a rookie in hosting laid back but effective charitable events. Several years ago, the then-resident DJ NOBLE partnered up with Raising the Roof to collect clothing items for those in need. The annual fundraiser was a hit, drawing social circles generally not cohabiting the same events to come together and make a positive impact in the community.
The tradition lives on, thanks to the current resident DJ, Mina Khalil. Bringing together his crew of local DJs and NOBLE back to his roots all the way form NYC, the “Parlour family”, as Mina affectionately dubs his team, is ready to feed the hungry but needs your help. Price of admission? Bring a non-perishable item or a $5 donation to the door and don’t forget to have fun while at it by throwing on your ugliest Christmas sweater.
“Parlour events promote a sense of family year round,” Mina explains. “The holiday season is of course no exception. We look towards these intimate gatherings to not only share great music but of course come together in a time of love and appreciation. On December 26th, we will do so to hopefully give those less fortunate a better holiday season. Call it small acts of kindness with an ugly fashion sense,” he chuckles.
