Detox Diet Step 3: Getting Started

Here I am, still standing after completing my first week of hell month. I might be exaggerating a bit, what’s it to you, but I am not kidding when I say I’ve gone from feeling like crap to feeling a whole lot better in the past week. The change is pretty amazing actually, and just for that I am glad to be doing this hellish diet! From feeling faint, having the shakes, and even sweating a little, I am now eating less, craving less and feeling a lot lighter on my feet than I have in months.

Alright, alright, it isn’t all rainbows. I was very hungry at first, had the trouble to feel satisfied after a meal, because there is less sugar, less salt, less fat than what my body is used to. I felt extremely tired in the morning, in the afternoon at work, and completely exhausted when I got home in the evening. I had to snack constantly, with fruits or nuts or hummus, just to keep me going. This lasted about 4 or 5 days, ups and downs, feeling good and feeling bad. I’m ok now, but I have been getting weird headaches, which I’m trying to cure with water. I’m drinking so much water that I am now an hourly pee-er, and I’m thinking of getting diapers so I don’t get confronted about it at work. I just like water! Geez!

Ok, now let’s look on the bright side. I’m eating so much better than I was before, and honestly, without that much more effort. The good thing about this diet is that the food I am able to eat doesn’t take that much time to prepare! Boil a few veggies, stir in some spices, blend, and you have a soup. A very healthy one. Throw a bunch of ingredients in the food processor, and you’ve got vegetable patties to bake, garlic and avocado hummus, nut “cheese”. Turn on the rice cooker every once in a while, and you’ve got brown rice to go with any roasted or sautéed veggies and legumes. I haven’t felt bloated in a few days, which is great! I feel a whole lot thinner even though I’m pretty certain I haven’t lost any weight yet. And I’m beginning to find  food alternatives that I am really enjoying. Avocado hummus instead of mayo? Yes please! Avocado anything??? Yes PLEASE!!

My favorite has been to substitute my morning yogurt with apple sauce, to accompany my bowl of granola mix. GLUTEN FREE granola mix. But even then, I sometimes question whether or not I am “cheating”. I’ve spent over 100 bucks in my first week, so I have a few times opted for a ready-made solution, like the mentioned granola mix, gluten free dairy free crackers, even organic vegetable broth. It’s my first week, cut me some slack. I assure you my body has felt the shock of the diet already, so I must be on the right path. I am detoxing.

I really wish I could cheat, just have that one day a week where a could eat a cheesy egg wrap for breakfast, a veggie burger and fries for lunch, and a mountain of pizza for dinner. Just a little cheat. What can I say, I girl needs to treat herself. But don’t worry, I haven’t sunk that low yet, I still have a spring in my step and a sparkle in my eye. For now.
